- Starting at a very young age in the Boy Scouting movement, I grew fascinated by the outdoors. There wasn't a day that I spent in the woods as a child that I didn't learn more in nature than I did in school in a month. Being described as an "old soul" I took to learning everything I could about the old ways.My respect and thirst for knowledge for the environment and the handcrafts of old were insatiable. From the first time as a child that I shot my father's 50 caliber Hawken rifle I knew I was hooked. Seeing the blacksmiths at the county fair only fueled my desire to do something great with my life other than work and pay taxes until my death. I choose not to just exist, I choose to bring back the old and good days of previous centuries and share them with everyone who takes an interest. My days of Boy Scouting sculpted my moral and ethical behavior of today. They gave me a sense of adventure, obliterating fear of the unknown and gave me the strength to forge a path in my life that most never give any thought to take. Schuyler flatts 2019
Come by for the greatest living history in the northeast August 17-18. Schuyler flatts in Watervliet will be the scene of many living historians the will be covering from the Vikings to WW2. This will be the biggest one ever so don’t miss it!

Camp Boyhaven Klondike Derby 2015
This coming weekend 1/7/2015 we will be at the Klondike Derby in the Boyhaven Boy Scout Camp,
This year we will actually be a stop on the boys trail "In Search of Bigfoot" As usual we will be demonstrating our favorite time period which is the late 1800s. We will be boiling traps, have muskets and original accoutrements from that period. The Scouts have to demonstrate cooperation,
respect,, and just pay attention to what we happen to be showing at the time. The Scouts earn points
1-5, 5 being the best. Hope to see you all there!

Klondike Derby
February 4, 2012 Camp Boyhaven will be hosting the Klondike Derby for the Boy Scouts. The Boys will be spending 15 minutes at each station throughout the day competing to be the top troop. New for the year, we will be doing what we were meant to. We will be doing demonstrations geared more to the 1870-1880 time period. Hope to see all the scouts there..

Maple Valley Sugar Festival
March 24-25, 2012, the CIB, Confederate Iron Brigade, will be attending the Maple Valley Sugar festival. This festival is in celebration of the Maple Sugar season. The trees have been tapped and the sap will be boiling at the shack, it is alot of work and come on out to see the process unfold right before your eyes. There is a hayride to the sugar shack and alot of different maple sugar products for sale including maple cotton candy. There will be a beekeeper on hand with a hive and the equipment that is used to keep bees. Learn of the healing qualities of honey. The Adirondack Mountainmen will be there doing tomahawk throwing and will have an encampment. We will be in attendance bringing our encampment and countless items indigenous to the 19th century. Blacksmithing using traditional methods and original equipment, musket demonstrations with original muskets and plenty of other activities in our camp throughout the day. A bit of crosscut sawing, musketball molding, fire starting, cooking with cast iron and even some traps on display. You never know what we will be up to in our encampment. Definitely a good weekend to come out and enjoy whats on hand.. See the comment to get directions and the address.
